Frequently asked questions
What will the weather be like during our trek?
The best months are January to mid-March and June to October – these are dry seasons with better weather and clear summit views.
Temperatures vary greatly. It can be warm at the base (20–25°C / 68–77°F) and drop to below 0°C near the summit, especially during the night ascent. We’ll provide you with a detailed gear checklist to ensure you’re fully prepared for all types of mountain weather. If you stick to the list, you’ll be warm, safe, and comfortable throughout the trek.
What are the vaccines and medications that I should take before going to Tanzania?
Before climbing Kilimanjaro, we recommend being up to date on routine vaccines, especially tetanus and hepatitis. While Mount Kilimanjaro itself is not a malaria zone due to its high altitude, travelers may be exposed to mosquitoes before and after the climb in lower-elevation areas of Tanzania. Because malaria is transmitted through mosquito bites, we suggest using a strong insect repellent and consulting your doctor about whether over-the-counter malaria tablets are recommended for you. Additionally, if you have visited a yellow-fever-risk country within the past 5 years, you should have received the yellow fever vaccine and carry the official proof-of-vaccination booklet when entering Tanzania.
What about the Visa to Tanzania?
Most travelers require a visa to enter Tanzania. There are two main options:
-
eVisa (Electronic Visa): You can apply online before your trip via the official Tanzania Immigration website: https://visa.immigration.go.tz/. The process is simple—complete the form, upload documents, pay the fee, and receive your visa grant notice by email.
-
Visa on Arrival: Many nationalities are eligible to obtain a visa upon arrival at major entry points. Just bring the necessary documents and visa fee in cash.
Please note: Each traveler is responsible for checking and obtaining the correct visa based on their nationality and the most up-to-date immigration regulations. Some nationalities may be exempt, while others may require additional documentation or advance processing.

How fit do I need to be to climb Kilimanjaro and what is the success rate to reach the summit?
What about altitude sickness?
Altitude sickness can affect anyone on Kilimanjaro due to the rapid gain in elevation—but with the right precautions, it’s manageable. Our treks are designed with acclimatization in mind: we go at a slow pace, include rest days, and encourage hydration and proper nutrition. Most people may feel mild symptoms like headaches or fatigue, especially above 3,000 meters.
To ensure your safety, we monitor your oxygen levels daily using a pulse oximeter and our guides are trained to recognize early warning signs. We also carry an emergency oxygen tank and have clear evacuation protocols in place should symptoms become severe.
Your health comes first—and with the right care, most trekkers adjust well and safely reach the summit.
Where will we sleep on the mountain, and what about the toilets?
You’ll sleep in tents at designated campsites along the route. We provide high-quality mountain tents, sleeping mats, and a dining tent for meals.
Public toilet facilities are available at campsites, but they are very basic. But we offer private portable toilet tents, dedicated to our group, for more comfort and hygiene.
